A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 26-year-old technician, William Adams, to seven months imprisonment for stealing a television set and N47, 500 cash.
Adams, who resides at Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, was sentenced on a four-count charge of criminal trespass and theft, offences he admitted committing.
Senior Judge Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N20, 000 fine and also ordered that the recovered items be returned to the owner.
Sadiq warned the convict to be of good behaviour and to desist from committing crimes after serving out his punishment.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, had informed the court that on Jan. 29, one Jeremiah Vatnubu of Daki Biyu village, Jabi, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station.
Auhioboh told the court that the convict trespassed into the complainant’s compound at Jabi at about 12:a.m., entered his room and stole a plasma television set and N47, 500 cash.
The prosecutor said while the convict was in police custody on Jan. 30, he broke the iron barrier and attempt to escape but was rearrested immediately.
She said that during police investigation and interrogation, the television set was recovered but all effort made to recover the money prove abortive.
Auhioboh said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348, 346, 288 and 95 of the Penal Code.
The prosecutor prayed the court to try him summarily under Section 347 of the Administration of Criminal Justices Act, 2015.
