A 72-year-old man, Patrick Aghafua, and his business partner, Tunde Tijani, were on Thursday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing 145 drums of Paraffin oil valued at N12 million.
Aghafua and Tijan, 50, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and diversion of product.
The duo conspired with others still at large and committed the offences sometime in September 2016 in Lagos, Police Prosecutor
Francis Igbinosa told the court.
Igbinosa said the accused diverted and stole 145 drums of Paraffin oil valued at N12 million, belonging to the complainant, Mr Raymond Johnson.
According to the prosecutor, the accused refused to remit the money realised from the sale of the commodity after they took delivery of it.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Both pleaded not guilty to the charge.
While ruling on their bail applications, Magistrate Ibrahim Bakare granted them bail in the sum of N1million each with two sureties each in like sum.
He said the sureties must show proof of tax payers to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until Nov. 7 for mention.
