The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fact-finding committee has revealed that the result of 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) out of 23 had been announced in the Rivers governorship and state house of assembly elections before it was suspended.

PoliticsNGR reports that the collation was stopped due to disruption in so many places.

This was revealed in a statement released by Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC on Friday revealing the committee’s report on Friday.

According to the commission, the declared results are in its safe custody. It also revealed that declarations and returns were made in 21 state constituencies out of 32 were made prior to the suspension.

The commission, therefore, expresses the commitment to expeditious completion of the collation process where results of the elections have not been announced.

It also said that security agencies at national level and the inter-agency consultative committee at the state level will be engaged for the remaining process.

It, therefore, demands neutrality and professionalism of security personnel in order to ensure a peaceful environment for the completion of the elections.

INEC also said it will engage key stakeholders in rivers state with a view of ensuring a smooth and peaceful completion of the process.

According to the commission, detailed timeline and activities f0r the completion of the election will be issued on Wednesday 20th of March, 2019.
