Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has called on Rivers people to remain calm as the success of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) in the March 9 Governorship Election would be a sweet victory in the end.
The governor stated this on Friday when 13 members of the National Assembly elected on the platform of the PDP presented their INEC Certificates of Return to him at a ceremony in the Government House, Port Harcourt.
In a statement released by Simeon Nwakaudu, the Special Assistant to the governor on electronic media, Wike said that the will of Rivers people will prevail at the end of the day despite the conspiracy against the people of the State.
While noting that the ruling party in the state won the elections squarely, Wike said he believe in peace.
He, therefore, urged Rivers people to be calm, adding that he believes in due process and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)` is doing their best to follow the due process.
“In the end, it will be a sweet victory. The will of Rivers people will prevail “, he said.
Political standoff will end
The governor, who also described the entire political standoff as a drama which will end said the people of Rivers people voted overwhelmingly for the PDP in all elections, while the anti-democratic forces attempted to snatch results at the Collation Centres.
While thanking the people of the state for the love they have shown PDP, Wike said that he is not in doubt that Rivers people have shown the opposition party love., but what is happening is sad.
“We have 13 House of Representatives seats and the PDP clinched all of them. We have three Senate seats, one has been declared and PDP won. When the remaining two seats are declared, PDP will win them . Eighty percent of the seats declared, PDP took all,” he boasted.
