A Nigerian Prison - Prison Congestion: No Governor has signed Death warrant on inmates - Babagana

Comptroller of Prisons in Niger State, Mohammed Babagana, has lamented bitterly on the unpleasant prison congestion in the State and government inability to pass judgment on some of the prison inmates.

Babagana queried that the state government has to be proactive in their decision making while also appealing for decisive action on those Inmates that have been sentenced.

“Since the inception of the present democratic government in the country in the last 18 years, no state governor has endorsed any death warrant of convicts in their states.

This is responsible for the increasing number of condemned inmates waiting for the hangman’s noose across prison facilities in the country,” he said.
