The Police in Jigawa have arrested seven suspected vandals and thieves in Taura and Birninkudu local government areas of the state.
The Police Spokesman in the state, SP Abdu Jinjiri, confirmed the arrest to newsmen in Dutse on Tuesday.
Jinjiri said that three of the suspects were arrested on Feb. 15 in Taura town near a water supply scheme at Sabon Fegi quarters.
He also said that the suspects, aged 25, 27 and 34, were arrested in a vehicle marked APP 453 CY at about 2 a.m.
He said the suspects who were residents of Badawa quarters in Nassarawa Local Area of Kano State, were arrested with a hammer, hoe, hacksaw, iron rod, set of screw drivers and military camouflage.
According to him, during investigation, the suspects confessed to have been responsible for the theft of submersible water pump devices mounted on boreholes by the State Government.
“The suspects were there to also remove the newly-installed device at the project site,’’ the police spokesman said.
He further said that the command, based on a tip-off, also arrested four youths who had been terrorising Birninkudu town and its environs.
He said the suspects, aged between 18 and 19, specialised in stealing cell phones, pick pocketing and breaking into mosques in the area.
“They specialised in stealing cell phones ,pick pocketing, and breaking into mosques to steal Holy Qur’an, generators, amplifiers and other property,” he said.
The spokesman also identified one Anas Adamu of Makwalla quarters as the receiver of the stolen items.
According to him, investigations into the cases are ongoing, after which the suspects would be charged to court.
Jinjiri said the command would continue to fine-tune its crime control mechanisms in consonance with emerging security threats.
He called on the public to assist the police with useful information to curb the level of crime and criminalities in the area.
