Below is a Press Statement from Progressive E-group, an online political group in Osun state;
Progressives e-Group, the number one online media team in the state of Osun hereby call the attention of the security agencies across the state to the menace of serial harmful attack on members of the ruling All Progressives Congress by the opposition.
As the campaigns for the 2018 Osun governorship election were rounding off, series of attacks were perpetrated on members and supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress,the ruling party in the state.
Only yesterday, Saturday the 15th day of September, 2018 in Orolu local government, Imam Basheer, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Arewa matters was attacked with cutlass, machetes, and other dangerous weapons.
The sinful act was perpetrated by hoodlums believed to be loyal to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship aspirant, Otunba Iyiola Omisore. Imam Basheer was in Orolu local government to canvass Hausa community in the town for Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola when he was battered, assaulted and the most grievious harm meted at him.
In the same vein, the Egbedore local government coordinator of De Raufs volunteer group, Comrade Michael Adejumo (a group supporting the good works of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola) was yesterday the same Saturday 15th day of September,2018 deliberately hit from behind on motorcycle on his way back home from All Progressives Congress rally in Osogbo.
The only crime committed by Mr. Michael was that he wore a Gboyega Oyetola inscribed T-shirt and cap.
As at the time of writing this report, the De Raufs coordinator is receiving treatment at a private hospital at Dada Estate, Osogbo.
He was deliberately hit by a vehicle branded and customized in the name of the same Iyiola Omisore and his assailants were shouting “we will kill you today”
“we will kill you today” before the young man was rescued.
Simultaneously as these were ongoing there were reports of attack on our All Progressives Congress members in Iperindo, Ikirun, Ile-Ife etc.
It is imperative to emphasize the fact that our renascent democracy cannot be consolidated if the opposition continues its attack on the ruling party whose main cry is that we should all eschew violence.
Between 1999 and now, Nigerians are expected to have fairly imbibed the required congruent political culture that could sustain democracy. But alas! Reverse is the case.
The snag is that should the ruling party in the state not imbibe the virtue of Omoluabi which is the hallmark of the Rauf Aregbesola led APC administration and her members are allowed to retaliate, the opposition would cry federal might thus this call for immediate investigation and correction of the unwarranted aggressive tendencies of the opposition party. Perpetrators should be brought to book.
No one has monopoly of violence but our belief in a violence-free election and instructions from the No 1 security officer of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola not to attack anyone no matter what is our watchword.
