The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has given a situation report on the collapsed building at Massey Street, Ita Faji, Lagos Island.
According to a statement released on its social media page, by Adebayo Kehinde, from the Public Affairs Unit of LASEMA, on getting to the scene of the incident, the agency discovered that a 3 storey building totally collapsed.
It added that section of the multi-storeyed building is a nursery/primary school and children in classes were said to have been trapped in the building.
It further revealed that 3 adult females, 1 adult male, 2 teenage boys, 1 young boy and 3 teenage girls have been recovered alive while an unspecified number of people were recovered from the rubble before the arrival of the emergency responders on the incident scene.
It concluded that the agency is collaborating with Lagos State Fire Service (LSFS), Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) and the Red Cross Society are at the scene.
Paramedics on the scene are attending to victims of the collapsed building.
It is hoped that more people will be rescued alive as the school is reportedly said to have close to a hundred pupils.
