Officers of the Nigeria police force are currently clashing with workers at the head office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Abuja. The policemen reportedly teargassed the workers who prevented the suspended secretary from entering his office.
Usman Yusuf, the NHIS executive secretary was suspended last week. Yusuf had kicked against his suspension by the NHIS governing board, saying he would resume work on Monday.
But the NHIS workers union had threatened to lock him out of office.
Yusuf arrived at 8:30 am earlier today and gained entry into the premises with the aid of the policemen and was accompanied to his office.
The protesting workers were then teargassed by the police officers.
