Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state has said an integrity test will be carried out on buildings around Ita Faaji area, Lagos Island and demolish any that fails the test.
This is as a result of the collapse of a four-story building at Massey Street, Lagos Island. The building houses a school on the second floor with close to a hundred pupils.
Speaking to newsmen after being briefed by The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Ambode said the school in the building is an illegal one.
He, therefore, call on the people at the scene to give the rescue the chance to save more lives, assuring that they are fully in charge and they will continue with the operation.
It was gathered that Ambode arrived the scene of the incident where over 100 school pupils are reportedly trapped exactly 2:45 pm.
He said from the briefing he got from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency boss, 25 bodies have been rescued so far.
While revealing that there have been pleas from house owners from the area, the governor said notwithstanding, his administration will go ahead with the integrity test and do the needful where necessary.
“But the most important thing now is to save more lives before we talk about dealing with the culprit,” he added.
