African Initiative Against Corruption and Examination Malpractice (AFICEM), an NGO, says it is collaborating with Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to tackle examination malpractice in schools.

The National Coordinator of the group, Mr Frances Abioye, made this known while addressing members of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), at the Teachers’ House in Owerri on Thursday.

He explained that the partnership between the group and ICPC to fight corruption in various institutions had become necessary because examination malpractice was a threat to Nigeria’s future.

The national coordinator further explained that the adverse effect of examination malpractice would produce bad leaders in future.

“I feel for our nation today because these children will become leaders tomorrow and we must start early to catch them young so that they will not carry the mindset into the society,” he said.

Abioye said AFICEM had raised more than 2,000 anti-corruption ambassadors who were stationed in various offices across the country to fight against corruption.

He urged principals to brace up to the challenges posed by examination malpractice by enforcing the exam ethics in their various schools, alleging that teachers, parents and supervisors aid students in cheating during examination.

In his remarks, the President of ANCOPSS, Mr Baanah Manume, promised to partner with the NGO in ensuring that examination malpractice was eliminated from the educational system.

Manume blamed policy makers for high rate of examination malpractices in schools.

He alleged that private schools perpetrated examination malpractice more than the public schools, saying that the system in operation condoned the nefarious act.
