Minister for Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has assured the Ogun State government of the Federal government’s readiness to partner with the state towards enhancing it’s agricultural productivity.
Chief Ogbeh stated this, on Tuesday, during an inspection tour by the Presidential Task Force on Agriculture to Ogun State.
The Minister who expressed delight with the different initiatives of the Ogun State government in the area of agriculture, said the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is ready to support the state government.
The Minister spoke during an inspection tour by the Presidential Task Force on Agriculture to the Eriwe Fish Farm settlement in Odogbolu Local government Area of Ogun State.
Chieh Ogbeh encouraged the farmers in the state not to relent adding that investing in agriculture is the way to eradicate poverty.
The Minister who revealed that no country can survive on importation enjoined Nigerians to embrace production disclosing that the federal government would dedicate a day as from next year as Farmer’s day to celebrate the greatness in farmers.
Speaking in the same vein, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, who is a member of the Presidential Task Force on Agriculture, urged farmers in Ogun State to continue to organise themselves properly.
The CBN governor said by organising themselves into cooperative societies, the farmers will stand a better chance of getting the needed financial assistance.
Governor Emefiele who assured that funds for the growth of Agriculture across the country is available said the Central Bank was ready to partner with the Ogun State government.
On his part, Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Agriculture and the Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Atiku Bagudu, commended the Ogun State Government for focussing fully on Agriculture just like what had been done in the Infrastructural sector.
Speaking earlier, Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, appreciated the federal government for supporting agriculture, adding that this is one sector that is capable of driving the economy out of recession.
Amosun used the avenue to assure the federal government that any money given to support agricultural development in Ogun State would be judiciously utilised.
