The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has released results for the recall exercise of Senator Dino Melaye, an embattled senator representing Kogi West in the Senate.
The commission declared on Sunday that there was no constitutional basis to proceed with the Recall after the verification of his constituents were marred by a low turn-out.
Kogi West senatorial district covers seven local government areas and has about 351, 146 registered voters. But only 17, 792 voters were verified according to the figures released by INEC.
PoliticsNGR gathered that only 5.34 percent of the total number of registered voters in the constituency were verified. This figure falls short of what is required to initiate a recall for a serving senator.
Professor Ukertor Gabriel Moti, who monitored the process in Kogi said; “The verified signatures is 5.34% of the total number of registered voters in the constituency and has therefore not satisfied a requirement of the law for a referendum,”.
