Former Ekiti governor, Ayodele Fayose has called on president Muhammadu Buhari to leave a legacy of free, fair and credible elections by signing the electoral amendment bill that allows E-collation of results.

Fayose made the call in a tweet on Tuesday in reaction to Buhari’s comment that he will retire after his second term and leave a lasting legacy.

“Buhari saying his priority is to leave a legacy of free, fair and credible elections is like Oyenusi, Shina Rambo, Anini and Evans the kidnapper promising to leave legacy of a crime-free Nigeria.

“President Buhari should have signed the Electoral Act amendment to allow for E-Collation of results and use of Card Readers (Strictly) for accreditation to demonstrate his belief in free, fair and credible elections but he refused,” he tweeted.

It is a good thing we are in a free nation. Otherwise, this comment which impliedly classifies Buhari in the ilk of robbers, killers and murderers would have earned him a water tight libel case. We should criticise like a decent character, not like an impudent scallywag bereft of decency and character which is never the character of a Yoruba person except one in the ilk of area boys and street urchins.
