Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar has expressed sadness over the recent attack on innocent Nigerians by Boko Haram insurgents in Michika, Adamawa State.
The insurgents on Monday night attacked the area leaving many dead while others scampered to the surrounding hills for safety.
Atiku, who is an indigene of the state and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just-concluded presidential elections called on the Federal Government to act swiftly in ensuring peace.
“Deeply saddened by reported attacks in Michika Local Government Area, in Adamawa State. I urge the FG to act swiftly by directing our security agencies to rein in and ensure peace is restored. Every Nigerian deserves a right to peaceful living,” he said.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, who took everyone by surprise came into Michika from the Shuwa axis, shooting sporadically.
A witness, who had run to the top of a hill said he could hear gunshots inside Michika town, but could not state the exact time the attack started as they were too shocked to take note of that.
Attempt to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State command, SP Othman Abubakar, was unsuccessful as he didn’t answer or return the call.
Same was with the army spokesperson, Col. Sagir Musa, who could not comment on the issue as he also failed to pick telephone calls put across to him.
