There was a mild drama in Benue state earlier today after youths under the ‘Coalition of Benue Youths’, comprising of 40 groups stopped the Governor of the state, Samuel Ortom from going to President Buhari and forced his driver to remove the All Progressives Congress, APC flag from his car.
The youths prevented the governor from proceeding to Abuja, where he was to attend a meeting with the APC leadership, aimed at settling the rift between him and an APC leader in the state, George Akume.
The youths had stormed the Government House on Wednesday morning and blocked the governor from traveling to Abuja. Around 10 am, Ortom and his driver had taken off from Government House, Makurdi when the youths in their hundreds blocked his route.
The youths carried placards with inscriptions such as: “Ortom, don’t go back to APC,” “We don’t have land to donate for ranching,” “APC is Miyetti party,” Our farms are not for cows,” You must leave APC,” Ortom is our party,” and “2019: On Ortom we stand.”
The youths threatened not to vote for him if he shuns their advice or attends the meeting.
