The Adamawa Government on Sunday said it had signed an agreement with a foreign investor to commence cement production in the state.

Ms Shanti Sashi, the state Commissioner for Mineral Resources, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the sidelines of a retreat on Mining Governance for Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committees (MIREMCO) in Abuja.

According to Sashi, the state government is on the verge of getting all necessary approvals at the Federal level for the investor to assemble the factory.

She said that the company decided to establish its factory in the state due to abundant rich lime stone, clay and gypsum in the region.

The commissioner, who is also the MIREMCO Chairperson in Adamawa, said the state had earlier signed an agreement with an America investor, Swiss company to commence gold and barite mining, among others.

“These two companies are big achievements for the state.

“We are making efforts to get all necessary approvals for the cement factory to commence operations soon, while the other company has commenced exploration of gold and other minerals.

“Adamawa is blessed with solid minerals; we have lime stones, gypsum, platinum, gold and barite in abundance,” she said.
