Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State inaugurated the Anambra State Elders’ Council which will be headed by former common-wealth secretary general, Emeka Anyaoku.
According to Obiano, the council will “provide a platform for a engagement between the State Government and selected elder statesmen/women from the three senatorial zones” and “to advise the State Government on major matters relating to resolution of crisis as may be referred to the Council by the Governor”.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Anyaoku commended Obiano, saying he “has acted like a true African; Ndigbo are not alone in tapping the wisdom and advice of the elderly”.
According to Willie Obiano Wikipedia, he is a former banker and technocrat. These two qualities are part of the major reasons the elders welcome and trust him.
