11 poachers were recently arrested at the Cross-river national park after a crack-down by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Nigeria.
The poachers were nabbed with 15 matches and 6 rifles. Reacting to the development, WCS wrote on its page;
“Earlier this month WCS helped organize an anti-poaching patrol of Oban West close to Ekuri, and these were the results!
It is clear that certain areas of the park have been neglected and hunting is widespread. Unfortunately, rangers are not adequately supervised and lack the necessary support and equipment to be effective in the field. Cross River National Park needs help!”
