UNIMAID bomb blast : Scores dead as Boko Haram strikes

  • First attack on University since insurgency began 7 years ago

The University of Maiduguri was attacked early Monday morning by suspected Boko Haram terrorists. The attack was carried by two suicide bombers at the university mosque. According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA),17 people were injured while 4 died.

Unconfirmed reports state that a University professor was among the dead.Confirming the incident, the Borno police spokesperson, Isuku victor, stated that the incident occurred but he could not shed further light into it.

Eyewitnesses at the scene revealed that the first blast occurred at a mosque within the staff quarters at the time Muslim worshippers were busy finalizing early morning prayers.The second attack was said to have occurred near the university’s 5th gate usually used by pedestrians.
