Police denies reports of Fulani herdsmen attack in Delta state

A statement by the Nigerian police force has debunked reports that a serious clash occurred between Fulani Herdsmen and farmers in Delta state last week.

The Delta state police command, in a statement signed by its spokesman, Aniamaka Andrew, on Tuesday, told newsmen that there was never any clash, adding that journalists ”should verify their facts before publishing”.

The statement read;

The attention of the command has been drawn to reports suggesting that there are clashes between herdsmen and farmers in some communities in Delta.The command wishes to state unequivocally that it is not aware of any herdsmen and farmers clash anywhere in the state.Such unfounded reports are unprofessional, misleading and capable of causing a breakdown of law and order

Aniamaka urged the general public to shun the reports and be rest assurred that the police will continue to ensure safety of lives and property.

Several news platforms earlier claimed that a clash had occurred between Fulani Herdsmen and farmers in Abraka and Obiarukwu communities in Delta state.
