The proposed mega party being formed to unseat President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 is currently experiencing a problem as promoters and organizers of the party are at loggerheads over the name of the new party.
Recall, that the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, and former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, has publicly disassociated themselves from the proposed mega party; a move which has caused disaffection among political stakeholders.It was discovered that internal wrangling and disaffection, have split the mega party Committee, whose responsibilities include wooing former members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, and other political parties.
A source privy to internal details of the Mega party formation said;
“The 15-man Committee, which is headed by a former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, was said to have been meeting with groups, and individuals, who are said to have shown interest in leaving their political parties.The job of the intra-party Committee, whose activities have been criticised by the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of the PDP, includes bringing back former members of the PDP, and also wooing those who have never been members of the former ruling party.”
The source revealed that most of the people spoken with on the need to return to the party, were said to have been insisting that the PDP must change its name, just like the other political parties that formed the now ruling APC.
”They are insisting that the mega party must adopt a new name. The name to adopt is seriously affecting the process of forming a new vibrant party, that would take over power from Buhari in 2019,”
Many believe the internal wranglings rising up in the party at the moment is being orchestrated by elements loyal to the presidency who have infiltrated the party.
