The plateau state government has placed a ban on the activities of shiite muslims (also known as Islamic movement of Nigeria) in the state. The ban on shiites is coming after a clash between youths and some members of the sect in Angwan Rogo, Jos North.

The youths attacked the sect members while they were celebrating ‘Ashura’, a festival that commemorates the death of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson. The husanniya (Worship building) of the sect was burnt down and destroyed by the youths.
