Osun craftsman to die by hanging for stealing N200, kills victim

Kayode Idowu, a 35 year old craftsman, has been sent to the gallows by Justice Akano Kudirat of the Osun state high court on Thursday, December 1st.

Idowu and his accomplice, Adebowale femi were arraigned before the court on charges of murder, conspiracy and armed robbery. The accused persons broke into the apartment building of one Ajayi Florence and Rachel Ogbomoniyi at about 1am on August 3, 2009, stole 200 naira and murdered Ajayi.

According to state counsel, Faremi Moses, the two criminals forcefully gained entrance into the building, attacked the deceased and demanded money from her, when she told them she had none, they murdered her. Adebowale unfortunately died during the course of trial.

The two men were nailed after the principal witness, also a victim, was able to identify them to the police and subsequently, the court. Justice Akano before sentencing, highlighted that the crimes were contrary to sections (1) (2) (9)and 319 of the criminal Code Cap. 34 Volume 2 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

Pleas of ‘temper justice with mercy’ from the lawyer representing the accused persons, Ipede Sade, fell on deaf ears as the justice went ahead to sentence Idowu to death by hanging.
