Dino Melaye wins case against the Nigerian police, awarded N10 million

Controversial senator representing Kogi west, Dino Melaye has been awarded N10 million in damages in a lawsuit he filed against the Inspector General of Police.

Justice Kolawole Gabriel of the Federal High Court in Abuja, yesterday, ruled in favor of Melaye who was reportedly manhandled and briefly detained by the police in 2014 for protesting against former Aviation minister, Stella Oduah, over her fraudulent approval of the purchase of two BMW bulletproof vehicles.

The Nigerian police justified their actions on the grounds that Melaye and fellow protesters had not obtained permission to stage their protest. In his closing remarks, the judge chided Melaye by calling him a self styled anti-corruption activist.
