63 year old Effiong represents Akwa Ibom South in the senate.  Politics Nigeria learnt that Effiong’s defection could have been caused by his rift with Akwa Ibom state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, over 2019 A’Ibom governorship elections.

The PDP caucus has resolved to settle the issues between both politicians.
