Antonio Guterres sworn in As UN secretary general


Antonio Guterres has been sworn in as the new secretary general to the United Nations. The former prime minister of portugal took the oath of office today as he pledged to “exercise in all loyalty, discretion and conscience” his duties as UN leader when he takes over from Ban Ki-moon on January 1.

The 67 year old got the position after answering questions from the general assembly excellently while campaigning for the job. In the 71 year old history of the world body, Guterres will be the ninth UN leader.

Guterres experience as a prime minister and UN High Commissioner for Refugees from 2005-2015 aided his growth to first place among the 13 candidates who vied for the job.
