Commanding officer of Division 7 pictured hugging and laughing with his soldiers after reports of mutiny
Photos of the General Officer Commanding of the Nigerian Army 7 Division in Maimalari, Mr. Victor Ezegwu, Hugging and laughing with soldiers under his command have emerged, debunking wide spread reports of a mutiny.
It was widely reported that Ezegwu had left his ‘boys’ without food and water for over 24hrs (9:00 a.m. on December 14 till 6:00 p.m. on December 15) resulting in a protest and when he arrived on Friday, the soldiers allegedly committed a mutiny by attempting to attack him.
Ezegwu, a major general of the Nigerian army is attached to ‘Operation Rescue Finale’ in Sambisa Forest. It was reported that most of the soldiers were deployed to Sambisa from 21 Brigade in Bama, Borno State. A source in the military said that efforts were being made to increase the food supplies to soldiers in Sambisa.
Prior to this, a mutiny occurred 8 months ago in Alargano. Soldiers who were fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the town attempted to kill their Commanding officer after he left them for five days without water.
Over 100 soldiers have been tried for mutiny since the war against Boko Haram began.
