Buhari to renegotiate with ASUU over 2009 agreement

  • 16 man team setup by president will hold renegotiation meetings with ASUU

President  Buhari has set up and approved the membership of a Federal Government team to renegotiate the 2009 agreement with leaders of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The team headed by Dr. Babalakin Wale (SAN), will hold renegotiations with a view of fostering sustainable peace and harmony among tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Babalakin was also the head of the Federal Government implementation committee in 2009.

According to the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, the re-negotiation team would dialogue with ASUU, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and Non Academic Staff Union of Associated & Allied Institutions (NASU).

In November 2016, ASUU went on strike, asking the Federal Government to meet an agreement signed with lecturers in November 2013.
