Senate rejects Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the EFCC

  • 4 other members asked to proceed, Magu vehemently rejected.

The Nigerian senate has rejected Ibrahim Magu as the chairman of the Economic and financial crimes commission in Thursday’s plenary session.

They rejected Magu’s nomination by president Buhari on the grounds of security report.

Senate spokesman, Aliyu Abdullahi, made the development known to newsmen after the senate had convened privately on the matter for over an hour.

In his words;

“The Senate wish to inform the public that based on available security report, the Senate cannot proceed with confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.The nomination of Ibrahim Magu is hereby rejected and has been returned to the President for further action,”

The senate had earmarked today for the confirmation of Magu as the chairman of the anti-graft commission. No statement has been released yet by either Magu or the commission on the matter.

Meanwhile, the four other EFCC board-Member nominees referred by Senate to Anti-corruption committee, Adeleke Rafiu,Nda Sule Moses,Lawan Mamman and Galadanci Imam were asked to proceed for anti-corruption screening by the senate.
