Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has congratulated the Super Falcons of Nigeria for winning the 10th edition of the Women’s African Cup of Nations held in Cameroun.
The Super Falcons beat the host nation, Cameroun at the awcon 2016 in a keenly contested final of the two week long competition concluded yesterday at the Ahmadu Ahidjo Stadium Yaounde, Cameroun.
Governor Obiano also congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF and entire Nigerians for their invaluable support and encouragement to the Super Falcons which he noted contributed to the victory adding that with the spirit of oneness which Nigerians always show during such competitions, there was no doubt that the country is marked for greatness.
Governor Obiano who spoke through the State Commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, Ogbuefi Tony Nnachetta praised the team and their coaching crew for the rare courage exhibited in defeating the Cameroonian team in spite of the numerous distractions, domestic obstacles and the vociferous support of the home fans on the field of play.
He described the victory of the team at awcon 2016 as yet another demonstration of the tactical discipline, focus and determination which the team showed throughout the qualifying series of the competition as is characteristic of every Nigerian Team in the game of football both in the African continent and the world.
“On behalf of Ndi Anambra, I heartily congratulate you on this great feat. Winning the Women’s African Cup of Nations for a record eight times out of the ten years of its introduction in the continent is obviously no mean achievement.”
“It is indicative of the courage, resilience and winning mentality which you have shown in the last decade not only in the African continent but also in the world at large. We are proud of you and are happy to identify with this superlative performance,” he said.
Governor Obiano assured the Super Falcons of the support of his administration and invites them, on return to Nigeria, to be guests of the State Government as activities marking the celebration of the twenty fifth anniversary of the creation of Anambra State.
Anambra, he says, will host the team in Awka to further demonstrate the feeling of elation of the good people of Anambra state for the victory, cheer, feel good and the honour which the team has brought Nigerians even in times of economic hardship.
