The people’s democratic party(PDP) is poised to block any attempt to challenge the Ondo state governorship candidacy of Eyitayo Jegede(SAN). In a press statement by the secretary of its Ondo state chapter, Banji Okunomo, the party says it will hinder any ‘419’ attempt to scuttle Jegede’s ambition.
The statement read;
The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party has been drawn to a publication credited to Mr Jimoh Ibrahim where he claimed, among other things, to be the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming governorship election on November 26, 2016.
To those who are following the trend of political happenings in Ondo state, it is unarguable that the business mogul is a confusionist who is merely ranting.
Jimoh Ibrahim, obviously, seeks attention in his usual manner. He probably thinks he could deploy the trial and error method to the politics of governorship election in Ondo State like he does to many of his failed businesses.
How on earth can a Jimoh Ibrahim wake up one morning and talk about an ‘ambition’? What ambition? An ambition to ground the government or economy of Ondo State?
Or is it an attempt to defraud our dear sunshine State or its peace loving people by trying to spoil the good work that is going on?
If Jimoh Ibrahim, indeed, has an ambition and he is passionate about it, then he should not get it wrong from the very beginning.
One would have expected that a man with ambition would respect constituted authorities and follow laid down procedures.
Like the popular Yoruba adage: ‘one could easily predict that a Saturday would be pleasant by the experiences of the preceding Friday’.
If Jimoh has an ambition, a desire to be governor of Ondo State or a sincere passion to make the people of Ondo State benefit from his acclaimed philanthropy, he would not tow the political path he currently tows.
Jimoh Ibrahim, until recently, that he is frantically laying claim to the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State was never a member of the party. No, not at any level – unit, ward, local government or State.
All along, he had openly confessed to be a member of the Accord Party. If a member of the Accord Party, can one expect him to show any act of benevolence to the PDP?
If Jimoh Ibrahim did not contribute, in any way, to the building of the PDP? How come he wants to reap where he has not sown?
Apparently, Jimoh Ibrahim is not even planning to reap anything as far as this case is concerned. He is practically doing the spoiler’s job. The question one should ask him is why he wants to supervise the destruction of a house whose construction he did not contribute to? God will not allow him.
To the teeming population of PDP members and admirers, democracy still remains the best form of government since it places premium on the majority opinion over minority.
Majority of the members of the PDP in Ondo State, via an electoral college, at a primary election conducted in Akure, the Ondo State capital on August 22, 2016 elected Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) as the flagbearer of the party in the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State.
At the said governorship primary election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the electoral umpire partook in the entire process and subsequently accepted Eyitayo Jegede’s nomination.
It is noteworthy that the August 22, 2016 election which produced Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) was not embroiled in any controversial political circumstances or judicial restriction.
Stricto senso, Mr Eyitayo Jegede’s (SAN) emergence and subsequent nomination complied with the due process of law.
The platform under which the wishy-washy governorship primary that produced the self acclaimed candidate of the PDP, Mr Jimoh Ibrahim had been disabled by an injunctive order of an Akure High Court ab initio.
The injunction prevented the group led by one Biyi Poroye from parading itself as a faction of the PDP and also stopped it from gathering or carrying out any exercise under the guise of the PDP either in Akure or any other part of the country.
Again, the much talked about Abang court order does not have any relevance to the 2016 governorship election in Ondo State and the governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State.
If it had, it would have been enforced against the conduct of the August 22, 2016 governorship primary election that produced Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) and that did not happen.
INEC is under the comfort of the law to retain the name of Eyitayo Jegede as the candidate to fly the ticket of the PDP in the governorship election except or otherwise directed by a higher court after all necessary filings of Stay of Execution and motion for appeal had been undertaken at the appropriate courts by the PDP in Ondo State.
To this end, the teeming supporters of the PDP in Ondo State should be assured that at the final determination of this case, no sane court of competent jurisdiction can subvert the democratic will of the PDP in Ondo State.
Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) remains the candidate of the PDP in the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State and all must support him until his final election in November.
Jimoh Ibrahim is not a member of the PDP in Ondo State and he can never be the party’s candidate in the governorship election.
