A 38 year old man has been arrested in Ruburizi area of Uganda for being in possession of 15kg of hippopotamus teeth.
Seka Hussein was arrested on Sunday by officials from Natural Resource Conservation Network (NRCN) with 32 pieces of large hippopotamus teeth he intended to sell.
According to Ruburizi police, the suspect was arrested in Katunguru town as he was transporting the trophies to Rubirizi where he says there is a businessman who was waiting to buy the cargo. Police spokesperson, Robinah Birungi said;
“The suspect is a businessman in Kasese District. He claims to have got the hippopotamus teeth from the Democratic of Congo-Uganda border and that he acts as a middleman. We are through with our investigations and we are going to take him to court,”
The NRCN is an organization responsible for protecting endangered species.
