Below is statement from the Godwin Obaseki support group urging Ize-Iyamu and his supporters to desist from campaigning after the edo elections.
The Godwin Obaseki Support Group (GOSG) has advised the supporters of the Mr Osagie Ize Iyamu to stop campaigning in the streets of Benin long after the window for such activities has ended.
The Group in a statement signed by Mr Peter Ashama the publicity secretary advised youths across the state to embrace the agricultural policy of the incoming governor Mr Godwin Obaseki and look at the bigger picture of a robust economy rather than be allowed to be used to foment trouble in the streets of Benin. The statement added that the recent pictures that went viral wherein children below the ages of 10 were sighted holding placard purportedly protesting against INEC amounts to child abuse and that it violates the child rights law of Nigeria 2004. All those responsible for that heinous crime should be arrested by the Nigerian police.
It urged the Nigerian police to ensure peace and orderliness to ride the state of street urchins and all forms of criminal gangs who are hell bent in destroying the peace enjoyed by the people of Edo state. The Group argued that as we speak, many local and foreign investors have lined up to embrace the economic plan of the Governor Elect which will create thousands of jobs for the people of Edo state and therefore any attempt by anybody or group to sabotage such efforts under the guise of street protest should be discouraged by all means.
All post election issues are handled by the election Tribunal under the constitution and it will amount to crime for anybody to take laws into his or her hands and subjecting the peace loving Edo people into unnecessary hardship is unacceptable and negates the freedom of movement as envisaged under the Nigerian constitution.
The GOSG once again commend INEC for organizing a credible election and conclusively for the people of Edo state, we also thank the Nigerian Police for a job well done and the people of Edo state for voting massively for Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy Hon Philip Shaibu who we know are going to look into all the issues raised by the people of Edo state during the electioneering campaigns especially the issue of taxation, youth unemployment and high cost of food stuff. Finally, the group advised the All Progressive Congress (APC) to go to court to challenge the votes allocated to PDP in the five local governments they won as we have credible evidence of voter intimidation, shooting and snatching of ballot papers in those local governments especially Orhiomwon, Esan North East, Esan West and Esan Central Local Governments. We urged all GOSG members across the state to remain calm as our lawyers are working round the clock to ensure justice is done in the five local government where we were cheated by the PDP.
